What is Personal Performance Coaching?


Personal Performance Coaching, also referred to as Life Coaching, is a structured conversation between a coach and a client in which the coach guides the client through a sequence of stages, to help them identify goals related to their personal or professional lives, then work towards them.

Through the use of relevant and sometimes challenging or probing questioning, the coach enables the client to overcome obstacles, challenge limiting beliefs, realise their inner resources, develop manageable action plans and ultimately make changes in their life, leading to greater happiness and success.

In short, coaching is about helping someone move from where they are to where they want to be more quickly and effectively than if they acted alone.

Coaching can focus on any areas of a person's life, including health and well-being, career, work-life balance, stress management, relationships, finances etc...


How do I know if coaching is right for me?


- Do you feel that currently you aren’t reaching your potential and feeling fulfilled?

- Is there a gap between where you are now and where you want to be?

- Do you sometimes feel you don’t have the skills, resources or confidence to get something complete?

- Do you feel stuck and put off making decisions or fail to stick to those decisions you have made?

- Are you ready to entertain new and fresh ideas?

- Are you willing to be accountable for what you desire?

If you answer yes to any of these questions then coaching can most definitely support you to be the best that you can be.


What coaching is not

Coaching is not therapy or counselling. It does not probe into your developmental history and childhood in search of explanations nor does it assume an underlying psychological dysfunction in need of healing. Neither is it about your coach giving you suggestions and advice on what to do. Giving advice is seen as a way of imposing a personal view of the world onto another person (who may or may not share the same view). It is not a Coach's job to become personally involved in a client's life. Personal Performance coaching is about objectivity, structure and empowerment. 


What can I expect from coaching?

Initially we would arrange an introductory session in which we would discuss what you wish to gain from coaching and get a feel for how we can work together. If after this you decide that you wish to go ahead with coaching we would then explore in more detail the areas of your life that you want to work on, agree a number of sessions, frequency and duration of sessions and how we will carry out sessions, i.e. Face-to-face, over the 'phone or via Skype.  Sessions are 45 or 60 minutes. The initial session however, can be a little longer.  Sessions can be booked individually, however there are discounted rates for blocks of six sessions or more. A minimum of 4-6 sessions is recommended however this is flexible. 

Coaching sessions then follow a 6 part process:

  • Reviewing the previous session's actions
  • Talking about the overall goal and the manageable stepping stones that could be taken to move towards it.
  • Discussing the reality of the situation, developing a deeper understanding of the situation.
  • Considering all ideas and options, challenging current ways of thinking.
  • Shaping the way forward and committing to an action plan.
  • Conclusions from the session.


Throughout the coaching process I will support you in realising your strengths, acknowledging your values and ensuring they are congruent with your goals and action plan. I will cheerlead you and celebrate your successes and support you in reframing and learning from any hiccups or challenges along the way. I may offer you optional tools to assist you along the way, e.g. to help you explore your values, use of time etc.

For anyone who is also interested in Mindfulness I can incorporate some mindfulness into the coaching sessions and recommend ways to develop this outside of sessions. However this is purely optional.
